The Spirit Realm

Spirits, or non-physical beings, are a type of sentient energy.

They are only capable of obtaining a physical body when possessing a creature, and are thus highly feared.  Arca itself has a natural, low (but rising) level of spiritual energy, and produces some lesser spirits. Some of these are capable of possessing weak or unintelligent creatures, and should be avoided.

But, there is a place separated thinly from the rest of the world, teeming with spiritual energy. The spirits here are trapped, existing in a cycle of being born, absorbing other spirits' energy to grow and build strength, before inevitably being consumed by others.

Occasionally, a spirit might gain enough energy and strength, without being absorbed by another, that it is able to tear the barrier between worlds, escape the spirit realm, and enter the world of Arca.

These spirits are known as deities. They may make themselves known to the inhabitants of Arca, or be more secretive, existing silently and unnoticed.,.

​ It is unknown how many of these powerful beings inhabit Arca.
